Damn, girl. What a year you were. From start to finish, one big giant professional, personal, and emotional roller coaster ride.
Thank you for my first weddings and boudoir marathons, amazing photography community, strong year of marriage, trip to the west coast, hours of mentoring and workshopping, new friendships, growth of old business and start of new. These experiences taught me more than I could have ever asked to learn!
And thank you for the editing marathons, sleepless nights, and firsts I wish I didn’t know. You sure know how to throw a teachable moment my way to make me see just how strong and dedicated I am to my two small businesses.
As much as I’m going to miss you (because you really were so very good to me), I really can’t wait for 2015!! I have so many amazing changes coming this year and I just want to see where they take me. It’s going to be the most incredible adventure!
To get things rolling, I want to share with you a few things that you helped me prepare for, goals that you inspired.
FIND A BALANCE
I’ll be the first to admit that I didn’t save enough of my energy and time for non-business things this year. I put my clients first a few more times than I should have and I said “no” to a lot of things to build my businesses and while I love my couples, I need to make my personal life a priority, especially the couple that I’m half of. Brian, you are a saint and I love you dearly for letting me work with my back to you, install a home office in our already too-small living room/kitchen area, and your unwavering support of me and my businesses. You couldn’t be a better husband!
REACH BOOKING GOAL (AGAIN)
You surprised me, 2014. You really really did. I asked you for 5 weddings of my own which I thought was a little lofty to begin with and you gave me 9. There aren’t words to describe how amazing that felt. So I thought I’d ask 2015 for 10 and you guys must be good friends because I surpassed that goal back in October. A dream come true. So I’ve set a new goal and I’m just four weddings shy of passing it again. I’ll let you know how it goes, but I have a very good feeling I’ll be celebrating shortly :)
CONTINUE EDITING WORKFLOW SUCCESS
I was lucky this year to meet a few incredible industry professionals that paved the way for my editing workflow insanity. These women taught me what it meant to plan my time, rock my editing programs, and shave off time in places I didn’t need it in the first place. I’m so proud of how efficient my editing workflow is and I know my clients love that it’s one of my strengths! I don’t want to touch it, but I do want to be sure to maintain how awesome it’s been so far!
CREATE & IMPLEMENT REASONABLE CLIENT WORKFLOW
Editing isn’t a problem and I love it so it comes easily. And so does the client experience portion of my business. I love gifting my couples, and sending them sweet reminders during their engagement to let them know I’m invested in their relationship and soon-to-be marriage, but I need a way to keep track of it all! The welcome gift, thank you notes, questionnaires… it gets to be a bit much when I’m dealing with more than a dozen clients so I need a system. I’ve tried Excel sheets, whiteboards clipboards, and separate folders for each wedding, but nothing has clicked 100% yet. I know your job is done, 2014, but maybe you could help a girl out? I’ll watch for your email
TRAVEL. TRAVEL. TRAVEL.
I saw Virginia, Maine, California, and Maryland this year for business along with a few other states, but I want to see more. And I don’t just want to see more states, I want to see more countries. 2015, if you’re listening, I have my mind set on seeing a beautiful mountain range, a Great Lake or two, the Caribbean coast, and a snowy forest. What do you think? Can you make it happen because I really hope you can!
One last thing, 2014… Thank you for my friends and family. You proved, down to the very last minute we spent together, just how important they are to me and I love you for that.
And thank you for photo booths because duh. :)
2015, I’m ready. Let’s do it!
PS – I had so much fun and Shannon and Kevin‘s wedding and it was SO awesome to be there as a guest! Have you seen these pictures yet? Hilarious. Apparently, I’m a good fan of the lips prop and making a kissy face. Thanks for not judging me too harshly.
PPS – I see a photo booth in ASP’s future!
